The Dharmakaya Center for Wellbeing is a place of rest and refuge

Ancient wisdom describes food as a source of prana, or life force. The Dharmakaya Center for Wellbeing was founded on the premise that nourishing food is integral to wellbeing. Our chefs are passionate about creating meals that are both flavorful and healthy. We use the freshest, most nutritious, least processed foods available; when possible our ingredients are organic and locally sourced.

Delicious, nutritious vegetarian meals are a hallmark fof the Dharmakaya Center for Wellbeing

MEALS

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in your accommodation fee. To promote good health, we serve delicious, varied, nutritious vegetarian (and occasionally vegan) meals. Our menus do often include rennet-free cheese and non-fertilized eggs. We also use onions, garlic and other alliums.

MEAL TIMES

Meals times may change according to events and programs.

  •  Breakfast is served from 7:00 am to 8:00 am. Cereal, bread, eggs, milk, jam, butter and peanut butter are available.
  • Lunch is served at approximately 12:00 pm  to 1:00 pm, and is the “big” meal of the day.
  • Dinner is served from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and usually consists of soup and bread.

Hot water and a selection of herbal teas (as well as milk, soy milk and sweeteners) are available in Birch and Oak Houses throughout the day. Please return your used cups to the dormitory kitchen areas when you are finished.

SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS

All our meals are served on a buffet, with ingredients listed next to each dish. Please read the labels to identify any potential food allergens. Although we strive to include options for those with the most common food sensitivities, many dishes include eggs and dairy, as well as glutens and nuts. We are sorry that at this time we can’t accommodate special diets and can’t allow retreatants to bring their own food to cook, or to keep in the kitchen or in their rooms. Our kitchen staff are trained in safe food handling, including the prevention of cross-contamination. However, we do not have the facilities or resources to ensure that trace amounts of allergens are not present in our food.

KITCHEN PROTOCOL

Please stay out of the kitchen and dining area when meals are not in progress, unless you are helping to prepare the food or clean up afterwards.
