The program also considers how these practices can help you build inner strength and compassion, increasing both your physical and emotional wellbeing. Open to all. $260, including all meals (Friends of the Center price: $221).

MEDITATION AND MOVEMENT: 6 RESTORATIVE PRACTICES

 

Both sitting meditation and movement practices are rooted in ancient Tibetan Buddhist teachings. They help build the resilience, openness and stability with which to move through daily life.    

 

This restorative weekend provides an interactive introduction to six distinctive, accessible meditation and yoga practices and their philosophical underpinnings. It includes teachings, discussion and practice, allowing us to explore how each form of meditation is helpful and how they complement each other.


  • Stillness Meditation: Linked to serenity, stillness meditation is designed to quiet an active mind by focusing on the breath, concentrating on a single topic, or practicing a centering meditation that helps release painful emotions and negative thought patterns.

  • Walking Meditation: In essence, walking meditation is an examination of time; we will use it to help root our awareness in the present moment.

  • Qigong: Using Hunyuan Qigong as a starting point, we will explore the use of mind-intent in the development, nurturing, gathering, moving and storing of QiWe will also practice Zhanzhuang Gong, still standing meditation.

  • Reiki: Exploring meditative practices from the tradition of the Reiki System of Natural Healing, we will do a series of centering practices and breathing exercises to increase energy awareness and energy flow.

  • Tibetan Singing Bowls: Sound and vibration with Singing Bowls can be used to achieve deep relaxation, reduce stress and create a healthy flow of energy through the physical and etheric body. 

  • Yoga: We will practice mindful movement, coordinated with the breath, followed by guided relaxation, in order to achieve a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of body and mind, and enjoy a deep sense of well-being.


Together these practices provide a strong mind-body foundation to help transform daily living.


When not in class, relax in the Center’s beautiful, tranquil environment. Enjoy the view from the patio or a nearby hike, curl up with a book in the library or contemplate the stars while sitting by the fire pit.

  • Program: $260 Includes one retreat ticket and three meals a day (Friends of the Center price: $221).

There are no prerequisites for this program; it is appropriate for meditators at all levels and those simply interested in exploring the teachings.

 

GETTING THERE: There is ample parking for those who wish to drive themselves. Directions can be found here. We offer van service from the Middletown, New York train station, meeting select Metro North West trains and from Ellenville, New York, meeting the Shortline bus. You must email us at least 24-hours in advance if you want to take advantage of this service.

ABOUT THE TEACHERS

  • John Henderson has been a meditator for over 20 years and a student of Trungram Gyalwa Rinpoche's since 2003. He translates his practice into his work as a business professional and entrepreneur with a focus on healthcare related enterprises.

  • Gary Wheaton has been a Buddhist practitioner and student of Trungram Gyalwa Rinpoche since 2008. He has served as Retreat Cook, Retreat Organizer, Retreat Leader, teacher's assistant and Dharmakaya's Program Lead. Professionally he is a human resources director, with expertise in conflict resolution and coaching.

  • Amba Winkler has been studying, teaching and practicing yoga since 1988. She is the director/owner of Shakti Yoga & Living Arts, a yoga and wellness studio in Maplewood, New Jersey, where she also offers massage and bodywork. She has been a student of Trungram Gyalwa Rinpoche and Khenchen Rinpoche's since 2003.

  • Madalina Blanton is a Reiki Master and Integrative Health Counselor who brings gentle care, compassion and deep attention to her work and clients. Her goal is to help people reawaken their own source of creativity, expanded energy and well-being.

  • Bob Blanton has over 40 years of experience in the martial arts, 25 of which have been dedicated to the study and practice of Qigong & TaiChi.

  • Kati Walker received certification in Vibrational Sound Healing with Singing Bowls with Suren Shrestha in 2009. This healing practice established in the Himalayas is performed by local shamans in Nepal, Tibet and parts of India. Kati enjoys deepening her knowledge of the healing arts and guiding people to discover their own innate healing skills.
