IT’S OK TO BE VULNERABLE: DRAWING STRENGTH FROM OPENNESS

We are often taught that vulnerability is a sign of weakness, something that must remain hidden at all times. And so we become closed—especially when we feel we are being criticized or are in danger. We erect barriers in an attempt at self-protection.

Despite our best attempts, those barriers don’t work. And in these challenging times, it seems more important than ever to keep an open heart, an asset that in itself offers a source of great strength.

In this weekend program, we will explore:

  • How to become comfortable with uncomfortable feelings

  • How to let emotions be our teachers

  • How to practice loving-kindness as an antidote to hatred and fear

  • How to treat ourselves with the same compassionate support we offer our friends

We can’t always change what is happening around us, but through simple practices, we can learn to address it calmly.

The weekend includes teachings, interactive discussion and simple guided meditations, in addition to the regularly scheduled Center activities.

When not in class, relax in the Center’s beautiful and tranquil environment. Enjoy the view from the patio or a nearby hike, curl up with a book in the library or contemplate the stars while sitting by the fire pit. You are always welcome to join the regularly scheduled Center activities, including the Center’s Sunday study program.
