Job Description

This position performs and coordinates all aspects of the “food” experience by preparing delicious and nutritious vegetarian meals for scheduled retreats and events; six in total in 2018.   The Event Cook will be responsible for duties including the planning, organization, preparation, and food presentation of meals. The position will work closely with the Guest Experience Supervisor, Operations Supervisor and Dharmakaya Leadership.


Job Responsibilities

  • Lead kitchen activities by preparing and presenting three or more delicious and nutritious vegetarian meals per day, ensuring consistency in quality regardless of the size of the group.
  • Leading the development, planning, and implementation of menus and kitchen operations.
  • Developing and regulating schedules and processes with the Guest Experience Supervisor to ensure flow.
  • Ensuring that all kitchen supplies are ordered, stocked, and properly stored. This includes all food items, dishes and utensils, cleaning products, cooking supplies, and any other item necessary.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized kitchen that conforms to health department codes.
  • Refilling food stations and interacting with guests once they are served.
  • Will be required to work weekends and evenings.



  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Enthusiastic, resilient and thoughtful demeanor required.
  • Experience cooking vegetarian cuisine in a semi-professionally or professionally environment or related experience.
  • Accurate sense of taste and smell - understanding proper seasoning and what tastes good.
  • A demonstrated ability to multi-task and an affinity for working in an ever-changing environment.
  • Proven capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Exceptional organizing and planning skills - perfectionist when it comes to detail.
  • Respect for and ability to maintain an environment of peacefulness and wellbeing while getting jobs accomplished.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and squat.
  • Ability to lift 1-25 pounds
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Work Environment:  Kitchen and campus type setting
