Winter Retreats | Growth through intentional practice

Winter affords an excellent time to step away from the pressures of daily life and focus on deepening your personal meditation practice.

From December through April, the Center welcomes winter retreatants, Buddhists at all levels of advancement who want a quiet place to pursue their practice.This program is similar to our Personal Retreat and Solitary Retreat programs, and is offered at a 30% discount.

Winter at the Dharmakaya Center for WellbeingUpon arrival, you will meet with a resident lama to discuss your personal retreat goals and design your practice schedule. You will continue to meet with the resident lama periodically throughout your stay.

While on a winter retreat, you will live in the dormitories and take meals in the dining hall. You are welcome to join the Center’s morning salutations and meditation and our Sunday Meditations. However, you must purchase a ticket to attend any ticketed teachings, programs or other events.

Most retreatants are expected to spend at least 8 hours a day practicing, although that requirement may be relaxed for those on shorter retreats. We recommend that winter retreatants stay for a minimum of two weeks, though we will accommodate shorter stays.


Prerequisite: Personal retreatants must have some knowledge of the dharma, meditation experience, the patience to practice and a strong motivation for taking a personal retreat. Retreatants should respect the teachers, the teaching and the environment of the Center and be willing to offer help at the Center as needed.
