ABOUT US

CULTIVATING WELLBEING

The Dharmakaya Center sits at the intersection of ancient wisdom and contemporary wellbeing. We focus on an integrated practice involving both the mind and the body. Physical wellbeing creates a positive environment for mental health; mental wellbeing produces a sense of equanimity that is the foundation for physical health. We invite you to join us.

The Dharmakaya Center is a haven for those who want to open their hearts, awaken their minds and revitalize their bodies.

OUR MISSION

In a natural spiritual setting, the Dharmakaya Center for Wellbeing provides a wide range of practices drawn from ancient wisdom, for all levels of interest, in order to cultivate physical and emotional wellbeing in the greatest number of people.

The term Dharmakaya refers to the all-pervasive wisdom of Buddha; it is complete enlightenment, wisdom beyond reference.

OUR VALUES

We believe that an awakened heart opens our natural compassion, banishes suffering and enriches our lives.

As Rinpoche teaches, when people are truly grounded in the present moment, they are free from negative emotions, such as loneliness, fear—even self-judgement. They are able to understand that problems are only temporary obstacles—and they are able to focus on solving those problems rather than assigning blame for them. Most importantly, they understand the fundamental goodness that lies at their own core, and the core of every being. They acquire the skills of awareness—and their hearts awaken.

All our efforts at the Center are grounded in the desire to help people develop these skills.

OUR HISTORY

The Center was founded by Trungram Gyalwa Rinpoche, PhD in order to share ancient Buddhist teachings in ways that are responsive to a 21st Century way of life. Rinpoche chose the Catskills in support of the people of greater New York following the tragedy of September 11, 2002. After much searching, he chose the property in Cragsmoor because of its inherent spiritual feeling. Our affiliate, the Dharmakaya Organization purchased the property in 2004, then embarked on a nine-year planning process leading to the groundbreaking ceremony on July 18, 2013. Rinpoche conceived the Center’s design and serves as our spiritual director. The Center opened in July, 2017.

The Dharmakaya Center for Wellbeing is an affiliate of the Dharmakaya Organization.
